Disaster Services Program

The Red Cross provides a broad spectrum of training and community services  for 17 communities in the county. While the organization depends on individuals for financial support, it relies heavily on well-trained volunteers to provide the staffing and assistance necessary to deal with emergency situations.  Training is available on a year-round basis through the Chapter House in  Northampton.

Volunteer positions include office support; health and safety course instructors; committee chairs and members; disaster response teams; and blood drive assistants. The Chapter can find a place for people with a wide range of  unique interests and skills.

Blood Drive Volunteers Needed!!

Do you have limited time but want to contribute to the community?  Have you wanted to donate blood but cannot because of health issues?  You can still make a tremendous contribution to the blood program by donating your time at a blood drive.  Drives are held throughout Hampshire County every month and we need your help at these drives.  Your duties might be preregistration, talk with donors during the donor process and escort them to the canteen after, or you might welcome them to the canteen and serve them refreshments.  The drives are 6 hours and we request a 3 hour shift and you would be asked do do only as many as your time allows.  We are experiencing a severe shortage of volunteers in the Amherst/Hadley area particularly for the Umass drives.  If you would like more information or to become a volunteers, please contact Mary Snyders, Director of Volunteers at 413-584-8887 or snydersm@usa.redcross.org.
